BREAKING: Arsenal drop out of race to sign highly-rated goalkeeper – Barcelona move appears to be close

Arsenal have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia this summer.
 

The Gunners had been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old and were reportedly close to signing him last year.

Other major clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester City, and Newcastle have also been credited with interest in the Spain U21 international.

An interesting update has now emerged regarding Garcia's future.

According to journalist Carlos Monfort of Jijantes, Arsenal are no longer in the running for Garcia's signature.

Mikel Arteta's side reportedly believe it is not worth spending the €25 million asking price on a new goalkeeper to compete with David Raya.

Instead, that amount could be used to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

It remains to be seen where Garcia will end up, with multiple recent reports suggesting he is close to joining Barcelona.
