Now, Marca has provided an intriguing update on the Argentina international's future.

They claim that Arsenal are currently the most interested club, with plans to make a serious move once the transfer window opens.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta — who knows Álvarez well from his time at Atlético — is said to have made the forward one of the club's top priorities this summer.

Liverpool are also showing interest and are believed to have made initial contact over a possible move.

However, both Arsenal and Liverpool may face a tough task convincing the player, who is reportedly unsure about returning to England after just one season in La Liga.

Álvarez has enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign in Spain, scoring 29 goals and providing 7 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.
