Reliable journalist Bruno Andrade of Mais Futebol initially reported earlier today that the Gunners had submitted their first formal bid for the 26-year-old Swedish striker.

However, that offer failed to convince Sporting, a stance that has since been confirmed by both Portuguese outlets Record and A Bola.

Now, there's a fresh update on the situation.

According to Mais Futebol journalist Bruno Andrade, Arsenal are ready to return with an improved proposal to sign Gyökeres this summer. Mikel Arteta's side are prepared to offer up to €70 million, including both fixed fees and performance-related bonuses.

It is understood that there is a good relationship between the two clubs, and Sporting are open to a new round of negotiations.
