Newcastle are reportedly prepared to break their club wage record in an attempt to keep Arsenal target Alexander Isak this summer.

The Gunners' top priority remains signing a new number nine ahead of next season, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško and Sporting's Viktor Gyökeres currently leading the shortlist.

However, it has been widely reported that Mikel Arteta's dream signing remains Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

With Newcastle having secured a Champions League spot for next season, it is considered highly unlikely that the Sweden international will leave the club this summer.

Liverpool and Barcelona have also been named as serious admirers of the 25-year-old.

According to The Times journalist Martin Hardy, Newcastle are now willing to break their club wage record to keep Isak at St James' Park.

Isak, who has established himself as one of the best centre-forwards in the world, remains a key part of Eddie Howe's long-term plans.
