Arsenal winger Marquinhos is reportedly set to return to the club following the conclusion of his loan spell at Cruzeiro.

The 22-year-old joined the Brazilian side on loan last summer, and while there had been discussions over a potential extension, those talks now appear to have collapsed.

According to reliable Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, negotiations between Arsenal and Cruzeiro have broken down, and Marquinhos is now expected to return to North London this summer.

Arsenal are reportedly not interested in sending the winger out on loan again. Although Cruzeiro had been keen on extending the deal, it is understood that Marquinhos is not part of manager Leonardo Jardim's plans moving forward.

However, Nicola also reports that the loan agreement includes a conditional purchase clause, triggered by the number of appearances made by Marquinhos.

So far, he has featured in 16 matches for Cruzeiro. Should he make one more appearance, the purchase clause would become mandatory, obligating the Brazilian side to sign him permanently for a fee of around €4m.

As it stands, all signs point to Marquinhos returning to the Emirates this summer, where he is expected to hold talks with the club regarding his future.
