According to transfer insider Sam Cohen, Arsenal remain optimistic that Saliba will sign a new contract.

Talks between the defender's representatives and Real Madrid are said to have taken place in recent weeks, but the Spanish giants were reportedly told that Saliba is happy at Arsenal and does not intend to leave before next summer's World Cup.

Mikel Arteta's side are keen to tie the centre-back down to an extended deal, with growing belief that an agreement will eventually be reached.
