This information was later confirmed by Portuguese outlets Record and A Bola.

Now, a new development has emerged regarding Arsenal's interest in the Sweden international.

According to trusted journalist Bruno Andrade of Mais Futebol, Arsenal have submitted an initial formal proposal to sign Gyökeres.

The offer, reportedly made in the past few hours, is understood to be below €60m, but with bonuses that could push the total fee above that amount.

Sporting are said to be holding out for €80m, and negotiations between the two clubs are expected to continue in the coming days.
